Many companies need to independently track their trailers which unlike traditional vehicle tracking solutions may pose a number of problems which need to be overcome. To do this, CMS SupaTrak have worked in conjunction with the haulage industry to develop TrailerTrak—a reliable and robust tracking solution. TrailerTrak is a self contained, IP67 rated, waterproof tracking device. The unit is powered by a large capacity battery, which when connected to the tractor unit via the ISO connector, is automatically set to recharge. The device is externally mounted on the chassis rails of the trailer and can withstand harsh weather conditions and operate without any external power source. Once fitted with the device, trailers can be tracked in real time using our web based mapping system which gives users all the benefits of a conventional vehicle tracking solution, including history trails and distance travelled, with additional data unique to TrailerTrak. Through data collected from the ISO connector, it is possible to identify whether the trailer is connected to a tractor unit. For many businesses, this is an important way of understanding their fleet and asset utilisation. Configurable location update frequency is available through the mapping system, whereby the user is able to nominate the rate at which the location data will be reported upon. This feature may be imperative to businesses who transport loads of varying value and wish to monitor the location of certain consignments more vigilantly.
