SupaTrak FMS CANbus tracks the best route to better vehicle productivity
June-2006

Recently launched by CMS Global Technologies of Swindon, SupaTrak FMS CANbus is an enhanced vehicle tracking and monitoring system that provides companies with new opportunities to increase productivity and lower operational costs.

The system, which  could revolutionise the way transport operators conduct and control their business, brings increased efficiency and greater savings at a time of ever greater road congestion and escalating fuel prices.

Developed from a concept originally designed by Bosch for the car industry, FMS CANbus (Controller Area Network communications bus) is a system used for networking intelligent devices as well as sensors and actuators within a system in real time.

In the SupaTrak FMS CANbus system this translates to vehicle tracking with 60-second updates as standard and unlimited web access from any internet connection, trailer tracking, cold chain temperature monitoring, plus a number of other vital functions that can help increase vehicle utilisation, reduce fuel consumption and driver/vehicle abuse.

The sum product of all this is increased productivity and reduced costs for commercial vehicle operators.

SupaTrak is one of the most efficient and successful truck and trailer tracking solutions currently available, offered at a price that makes it extremely cost effective to use. User friendly, it comprises a ‘black box’ GPS/GPRS modem and combined GPS/GSM antenna fitted to each vehicle. With a web browser UK mapping system that ensures all fleet vehicles are visible at all times, and unlimited user access to mapping, together with a comprehensive reporting facility that includes start/stop and historic ‘snail trail’ functions, SupaTrak offers most of the things a modern transport operator wants in order to track their fleet.

But with its routes in CMS’ unique OWP (Open Wireless Platform), SupaTrak is capable of much more. For example, tracking options include full European mapping, GPS updates at 30-second intervals, a GPS connection to a PDA for satellite navigation, and the ability to link with all existing collection devices and back office systems.

Integrate FMS CANbus and the operator can monitor actual fuel consumption and driving style, including the effect of harsh braking/acceleration, as well as monitoring the temperature in a refrigerated trailer with radio frequency (RF) technology.

Back at base, monitoring the vehicle use telemetry provided by FMS CANbus offers new opportunities to increase vehicle utilisation, and increased productivity when integrated into the CMS Mobile Worker application for automatic job allocation, job status, service level performance monitoring and vehicle and driver league tables.

Extremely flexible, SupaTrak FMS CANbus provides a totally integrated, secure system that can be used for many operational tasks and is ideal for the growing number of companies that want to enhance the monitoring and control of their mobile assets.

Cost effective to implement and with no long-term contracts to worry about, SupaTrak CAN: It takes vehicle tracking to a new level.
