One Minute Interview: Jason Airey
Jason Airey, MD at CMS SupaTrak, explains why the road transport industry should have the confidence to invest in new technology at the latest CV Show...
Why are you exhibiting at the 2011 Commercial Vehicle Show?
We are exhibiting at the CV Show this year to showcase our fuel saving solutions and share our experiences with the industry.
What do you think visitors will get out of a trip to the Show?
The show is set to be a great event this year, with the return of the vehicle manufacturers. In addition to this, there are some great new technologies being introduced into the market and our EcoTrak fuel saving technology will hopefully interest many visitors.
Why does the UK need a major annual road transport exhibition?
The CV Show is an important fixture in the calendar, as it gives the industry an opportunity to see what’s available in the market and to do so under one big roof.
Where in the economic cycle do you expect the transport industry to be by April?
Hopefully showing more confidence to invest in new technology.
How was 2010 for you?
2010 was a year of great change and advancements. We introduced a number of new technologies and began working with many new customers on exciting new projects.
What do you think has been the most significant development in the road transport industry in the last five years?
The cost of fuel has undoubtedly been the most significant factor in the road transport industry over the past five years. It has affected the entire industry, including many of our customers.
How did you get into the industry?
I have always been interested in new technology and innovation. CMS SupaTrak have moved and developed products and solutions with our customers to meet their ever-changing needs.
What is the best thing about your job?
Helping customers to realise the potential fuel cost saving achievable and working with them to achieve this.
Who do you most admire in the road transport industry?
Operators who have struggled to survive despite the ever-increasing operating costs.
How do you see the industry developing in the next five years?
I think the industry still has many struggles to overcome, but operators will hopefully become more confident to invest in new technology, which will ultimately help them to reduce their costs.
Who would be on the guest list (dead or alive) for your dream dinner party?
All of our customers who have worked with us to develop our portfolio of fuel saving solutions. Their input has been invaluable.
What makes you proud to be part of the road transport industry?
I am very proud of our EcoTrak fuel saving solution – it actually makes a tangible difference to our customers.
Pundits say the road transport industry delivers the economy. Do you agree, and why?
I agree that the UK transport industry is the life blood of the UK supply chain. Without it, where would we be?
Can you imagine a world without vans, trucks and trailers?
No. The roads would be far too empty!
