SupaTrak helps Proplant work smarter
SupaTrak, the vehicle tracking system developed by CMS Global Technologies of Swindon, is increasingly proving the perfect solution for a whole range of companies wishing to monitor and manage their mobile assets more efficiently. Proplant, one of the leading plant and survey equipment hire companies in the south west, wanted to be able to monitor the movement of its plant service and delivery vehicles more accurately.
The company, which has depots in Cardiff, Swansea, Milford Haven and Bristol, chose SupaTrak after viewing several vehicle tracking systems and deciding that it would be the most suitable, being simple to use and cost effective. Proplant General Manager Paul Charles says the primary purpose was to be able to see where the National service and plant delivery vehicle fleet were at any given time and also where they have been. This is particularly useful when customers enquire and with SupaTrak installed in its offices all plant hire managers can now quickly respond to customer calls for information regarding the whereabouts and ETA of service engineers and/or equipment they are waiting to arrive.
“Customers are impressed when we can answer their questions almost instantly and using SupaTrak certainly saves us time and the need for a call-back,” he says. “The system also provides benefits in other ways. We are currently working with CMS to refine it to add and retain customer site information, which is particularly useful as many of the sites we deliver plant to are new and do not appear on any map,” he adds.
“Once a driver has completed a first delivery we plan to put a site’s exact location on the SupaTrak mapping system and a reference so we can easily search for it again. In time it may be possible to build up a database of these sites, which will save time and aid future transport planning. “We also use SupaTrak’s daily reports function to assemble driver time sheets, cutting down on administration time, and the system provides an important security in transit function, which is reassuring when most of our equipment is high cost and valuable,” he continues.
As Paul’s experience demonstrates, SupaTrak can be much more than just a tracking device. The user friendly system updates a vehicle’s position every 60 seconds, whilst the centrally-hosted web browser UK mapping facility ensures all vehicles are visible at all times. SupaTrak also comes with a comprehensive reporting function that includes start/stop and historic ‘history trail’ options, so users can see where their vehicles have been, when and at what speed. Other available options include satellite navigation, full European mapping and 30-second updates
